Bambito Estate Coffee is located near the Volcan Baru an inactive volcano and Panama’s highest point. The Estate has 15 hectares of which 10 hectares planted with catuai (50%), caturra (45%) and typica (5%). The dark black soil sprinkled with volcanic particles combined with year round mild temperatures produce close to 30,000 pounds of green coffee beans per year.
Located in between of two national forest parks, Bambito is crossed by two mountain ridges from east to west creating two natural microclimates. These ridges protect the coffees trees from the summer north winds. The southern part of the estate has the majority of the sun exposure from early morning to id afternoon. The north part has less solar exposure, has more shade and humidity.
Our first participation in The Best of Panama specialty coffee cupping was in 2006 achieving a surprising second place. In 2008 the farm placed 13th, one of only two farms of the Volcan area to place in the top positions of the competition. And in SCAA Coffee of the Year 2008, Bambito placed among the semi-final round |
